What private actually means

Private China Tours: A Real Route, Rebuilt Around You

Most private china tours pages open with an empty form. That is a hard place to start. So this page works the other way round: pick a route we already operate, keep the parts that made you click, and change the rest.

A private trip here means three things. First, a real package as the skeleton — day order, transfers, and hotels that already work. Second, activity modules plugged into the right days, from a Great Wall sunrise hike to a chef class or a tandem skydive. Third, full control of dates, hotel level, pace, and city list.

Anything weather-dependent comes with a written Plan B, and anything with real risk comes with insurance and a fitness check — see safety and Plan B before you book. When the shape looks right, ask for a free draft and we reply within 12 hours.

Travelling for a specific reason? We keep separate theme pages for a first visit, china day tours when time is short, honeymoons, family summer trips, and Muslim-friendly travel. Everything else lives in china tours, with practical prep in the travel guide.

How it works

Four steps, one week of emails at most

Nothing is locked until you say so. The draft is free, and so is changing your mind twice.

  1. Pick a sample route — or send your city list

Start from a package we already run, or just send dates, passports, and must-sees. Hotel level can wait until reply two.

  2. Tick activity modules

Multi-select from the menu below — skiing, Wall hike, chef class, proposal setup. Your picks travel with the enquiry.

  3. Free PDF draft within 12 hours

Day by day, with trains, a hotel shortlist, and a written Plan B for anything weather-dependent.

  4. Revise, then we lock it

Swap a city, drop a museum, upgrade one lodge. Then we book hotels, trains, guides, and licensed activity operators.

Everything we can plug into your days

101 modules in ten groups. Tick what you want and it travels with your enquiry — challenge items carry insurance, a fitness gate, and a written weather Plan B.

Adventure & adrenaline

Default for challenge items: licensed operator, travel insurance add-on, age/weight/fitness check, weather Plan B.

Nature & slow outdoors

Scenery without the sprint — early starts, side viewpoints, and days that end before you are tired.

Culture & hands-on

Made with your hands, not watched from a rope line. Most sessions run 90 minutes to half a day.

Food & nightlife

We book the table, the spice level, and the hour you actually want to eat.

Romance & celebration

Set-ups we run quietly, so the moment does not feel staged.

See the honeymoon theme

Family & kids

Built around nap windows, snack stops, and grandparents who would rather sit down.

See the family summer theme

City icons & deep dives

Timed entries and early slots are the difference between an icon and a queue.

Wellness & soft reset

Recovery days are itinerary items too. Book them on purpose, not by accident.

Seasonal & festival-only

These only exist inside a date window. Tell us the window and we will say yes or no honestly.

Soft business & layover

For trips where the meeting is fixed and the rest of the week is not.

Safety & Plan B

What we confirm before any challenge day is booked

Adventure add-ons are the part of a private trip most likely to go wrong. So these five checks are not fine print — they happen in the draft, in writing.

  1. Insurance

Travel cover is required, with an adventure-sports extension where the operator needs one.

  2. Age / weight / fitness

Operator gates are real — tandem jump limits, ski level, trek altitude. We check before you pay, not on the morning.

  3. Weather, snow & sea Plan B

We never push a bad day. The swap is written into the draft: culture, food, spa, or an indoor option in the same city.

  4. Licensed operators only

No grey-market jumps or unlicensed boats. A safety briefing is part of the booking, not an optional extra.

  5. Downgrade any time

Same theme, easier version. Watch instead of jump, ride instead of climb — decided on the day without a penalty argument.

The softer version, decided on the day

Every challenge day has two steps down that keep the same theme. You do not have to argue for them.

  • Ski day Snow-play + sled hour Hot springs & ice-lantern night
  • Gorge trek Half-route with driver pickup Old-town walk & tea house
  • Tandem skydive Coastal helicopter or yacht hour Snorkel bay & spa afternoon
  • Plateau summit day Cable car + viewpoint loop Monastery morning & rest day

Private vs group vs DIY

Where the money and the stress actually go

Group tours win on headline price. DIY wins on freedom if you speak some Mandarin. Private wins when your days are limited and you would rather not gamble.

Budget feel

What it costs, and what moves the number

Bands are per person per day for two travellers sharing, land only. Remote regions and small parties push higher; longer trips average lower.

Mid-range private

USD 250–350 / person / day

Comfortable 4-star hotels, private guide and car, high-speed rail between cities.

Premium private

USD 350–500 / person / day

Boutique or 5-star on the nights that matter, finer dining, fewer hotel moves.

Luxury & remote

USD 500+ / person / day

Lodges, charter or internal flights, trek support crews, deep winter north.

How add-ons change the quote

  • Ski day with lesson + moderate

Lift pass, rental, and an instructor at your level. Transfers included on winter routes.

  • Tandem skydive + high, per person

Fixed operator price, weight and age gates, plus insurance extension. Weather may move the slot.

  • Couple or family photoshoot + moderate

Photographer hours, edited images, and one styling change. Sunrise slots cost the same as noon.

  • Michelin or fine-dining night + per cover

We book the table and dietary notes. One special night usually beats three good ones.

  • Trek support (guide, porter, acclimatisation night) + moderate to high

Extra night at altitude is the cheapest safety you can buy on a plateau route.

  • Hotel upgrade on key nights only + you choose

Often the best value change: upgrade the lake night, keep the transit night simple.

We quote the whole trip once, in writing, with the add-ons listed separately so you can drop one without redoing the plan. Ask for a real quote

Real trip texture

The hours a private plan is really for

Not the postcard — the timing. Early gates, empty viewpoints, and one deliberately unplanned evening.

FAQ

Private china tours — the questions we get most

Can we add skydiving to a Sanya trip?

Yes, at licensed drop zones in Hainan. It is booked as a separate module with age and weight limits, an insurance extension, and a weather window. If the jump is scrubbed we swap in a yacht hour or a dive, and you are not charged for the jump.

Can we turn Yunnan 8D into a trek plus photoshoot mix?

That is exactly what this page is for. We keep the Kunming–Dali–Lijiang–Shangri-La spine, add a Tiger Leaping Gorge day at the difficulty you want, and put a photographer on the Erhai morning. The draft comes back with both slotted into real days.

What if the ski day is cancelled?

The Plan B is written into your itinerary before you travel — usually hot springs, an ice-lantern night, or a city and food day. Your guide and car are already yours, so the swap costs you a phone call, not a re-booking fee.

How custom is this compared with buying the package as-is?

Dates, hotel level, pace, city order, and activities are all yours. The package is only a starting narrative so you are not staring at an empty form. Most travellers change two or three things; some rebuild the whole route.

Do I need a guide every day?

No. Many itineraries mix guided days with free days — we still handle hotels, trains, and reservations on the free days, and stay reachable if something goes sideways.

Can we mix private days and free days?

Yes, and it is often the smartest way to control cost. Guide the days with logistics or timed entries, go free on the beach or old-town days.

How fast do you reply?

We aim to send the first draft within 12 hours, including weekends. If your dates are inside two weeks, say so in the enquiry and we prioritise it.

What fitness level do treks, ski, or skydiving need?

Light treks suit anyone comfortable walking four to six hours with breaks. Plateau routes need recent hill fitness plus an acclimatisation night. Ski beginners are fine with a lesson. Skydiving is set by operator weight and age limits, not by fitness. We will tell you when a plan does not fit rather than sell you a hard day.
